Esoteric Early 80’s Humour

1) A Not the Nine O’Clock News sketch.

2) The FIAT Ritmo/Strada commercial it made reference to.

I have no idea why I know about any of this, because I think I was two at the time, but watching both jiggled my memory banks.

The one you link to is some German thing set on racing track. I don’t remember the original ad, so I don’t know how you do!

Whatever happened to the Hofmiester bear?

Yup, K, I’ve amended my link. I don’t know why I posted the German race track.

I don’t specifically remember the opera + robots + hatchback advert, but I did know exactly what the “Hand built by Roberts” slogan was spoofing.

And to see what the Fiat robots do on their days off, look at this video for the Chemical Brothers’ “Believe”

My parents had NTNOCN LPs, so I grew up with the Hedgehog Sandwich and Gerald the Gorilla (“All I ever hear is David BLOODY Attenborough!”). Think my particular favourite, or at least the bit I remember best, was Rowan Atkinson’s Barry Manilow impression which, in the same vein as Kenny Everett’s expanding Rod Stewart bum sketch, involved a progressive rhinal tumescence of (anti-semitic?) Biblical proportions!
