Road Trip: Day Fourteen

Day 14: Somewhere on Route 178, CA to Yosemite National Park, CA

07.00am
The petrol station attendant arrives, we fill up, and off we go.

11.00am
Sleep deprived, I dozed most of the drive this morning. I don’t know how Courtney has managed to stay awake. Now it’s my turn to drive while she dozes. This is our penultimate day on the road. I wish we were enjoying it more.

13.00pm
We arrive in Yosemite village, having driven through the park for at least an hour. Yosemite covers 1,882km², about 150km² bigger than Worcestershire. There is snow on the peaks of the mountains even now. We have seen some beautiful and sublime landscapes, but this caps them all. Our photos don’t really do it justice, but they will give you some idea.

14.30pm
Checked in and set up, I insist on food and a large beer before we look around properly. We haven’t arrived at quite the best time, it seems. The waterfalls which account for a part of Yosemite’s fame have all run dry. The main falls aren’t even a trickle. No matter, it will be practically on our doorstep for the next couple of years. We can return in spring, when the waterfalls will be in full flow.

We’re so tired we manage little more than a quick examination of Yosemite village before we’re back in the tent, ready for sleep.
