An Indian Summer

I was going to call this my Summer compilation, but I’m not sure how much summer is left in the UK, where I guess most listeners will be, so here’s the hypothesis: it’s early September, and an Indian Summer has arrived. A warm afternoon mellows into a balmy evening. This is what plays on your stereo as you enjoy a few drinks in the garden. Of course, these tunes work just as well for an ordinary summer day. It starts with some storming afro-beat, sashays into some latin grooves, takes an electronic turn and turns folksy at the end.

Click here to listen to my Indian summer compilation (61.5mb quicktime file). I’ll remove it after two weeks, just in case someone takes issue with me putting tunes here.

    Hi Liam,
Do you know of anyway I could watch Junkopia by Chris Marker? How did you see it? Is it available on the Internet to watch on the Internet?
    Hope you can help. Thanks.

    James,

I made a VHS recording from the TV when Film Four in the UK screened it, along with Sans Soleil, in 2001, I think. I since lent the video to someone and haven’t had it back.

I’ve looked around to try to find it in any format, but nothing has turned up. When I move back to the UK I think I’ll search some obvious places like the NFT. It’s quite hard to find Marker’s work on DVD or VHS.

La Jetée and Sans Soleil are available on one disc from a UK distributor.

The DVD comes with a decent little booklet featuring photos of the La Jetée bar in Tokyo.

If I find anything out I’ll put up a post detailing my findings.
